Shirley was born and raised in a rural farming area in southwestern Manitoba. The family ran a "mixed" grain business in combination with a live stock and dairy herd operation. After a move to Vancouver Island, she began a long career in local government in 1976 and advanced through the ranks from City Clerk to Director of Administrative Services. During this time she received the Distinguished Membership Award from the Local Government Management Association of B.C in recognition of professional contributions and dedication to municipal governments in the province of B.C. in 1990, Certificate of Merit from the Vancouver Island/Sunshine Coast Chapter of LGMA for 18 years of service as Secretary Treasurer on the Executive Committee in 2005 and was recognized for 30 years of service, dedication and commitment to local government for the community by the City of Parksville on her retirement in June 2006. Always deeply interested and concerned for our lands and the environment, Shirley looks forward to being an active participant in the Society's current and future projects. |
