As part of our Caring for the Englishman River Estuary project, MVIHES contacted over 400 homeowners to let them know that they live in the estuary of the Englishman River and what they can do at home and play to help keep it functioning. They received a brochure (add link) about the estuary detailing why it is important and how they can enjoy it year-round. Volunteers were also invited to help the professional biologists map and monitor the estuary vegetation, introduced species, eelgrass, forage fish and shorelines. Partnership with the Arrowsmith Naturalists helped with bird inventories.
Volunteer opporunties are still on-going, with volunteers being able to help with flow monitoring and water quality and temperature testing, invasive species removal, plant community photo point monitoring and assisting with fish surveys. More information is available under the Volunteer Opportunities area of our website.
