Our Junior Streamkeepers program is designed to give students the experience of being in the outdoors on the banks of their rivers and creeks and appreciate the wonder of nature first hand.  It is also a course that benefits those students raising salmon eggs in the classroom providing a hands-on look at where their salmon live.

This popular streamkeeper day is offered to students at various venues throughout the district. It is an interesting and fun day spent exploring a stream and the wonderful world of water.

Indoor and outdoor activities give children the opportunity to explore the wonderful world of water. Students study stream habitat, riparian habitat, aquatic insects (fish food!), and the salmon life cycle in this full day course.

From the banks of a nearby creek, and in its more shallow reaches, students explore the parameters of a healthy fish habitat with a Fisheries Biologist. They determine where fish like to live, what they prefer to eat, and what methods we can use to determine if the stream is healthy.

Students also explore the banks of a stream and learn about the riparian zone.  What is it and why is it important to a stream’s health and the health of the fish.
