), Project Manager. Faye Smith was born on Vancouver Island and later, she lived, studied and worked in music in Vancouver, Paris and Toronto before returning to the Island in 1980. Faye hadn’t been in Qualicum Beach very long before environmental issues started to occupy her. As a founding member and coordinator of Qualicum Beach Streamkeepers she was involved with many large stream habitat projects. Those include the fishways at the mouth of Grandon Creek and Beach Creek and the removal of the old water storage dam on Whisky Creek and others. Her involvement with MVIHES began in 1999 as part of the Central Island Fisheries Renewal Program and continued with the coordination of the Englishman River Watershed Recovery Plan. Michele Deakin ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ), Project Manager. Michele has a Diploma in Business Management from Ryerson Polytechnical, and a Recreation Degree, focusing on Parks Management, from the University of Waterloo. After many years working in government communications and marketing, Michele and her family moved to Qualicum Beach and she joined MVIHES, where she has been focused on local watersheds, marine and shoreline issues. When she is not working and volunteering for MVIHES, Michele volunteers in the community contributing to school and sports events, and grows organic food with her family.
